SHEPSHED 7 RACE REPORT AND RESULTS

Bright day at Shepshed!

Sunday's Shepshed 7 was the penultimate race in South Derbyshire Road Runner's 2011 Club Championship and 18 members took advantage of perfect running conditions to register some excellent times. Chris Mason again led the way with 45.33 for 27th place out of 425 starters. Not far behind was Colin Mee in 34th place in a time of 46.41. These performances were good enough to secure Mason 1st V60 and Mee 2nd V50 category prizes. Steve Leafe, getting back to something like his old form, was also under the 50 minute mark with a well run 49.43 and 76th place overall. Making a welcome re-appearance in Club colours was Rob Lower who edged out Club Chairman, Malcolm Moore, with times of 52.36 and 53.42 respectively.  Next to finish was Daniel Towns, who continues to improve with every race, whose 54.50 was, on this occasion, too good for current Men's Champion, Chris Gunstone's 55.35. 2011 has been an injury disrupted season for Gunstone and this race was very much a step on the road back to full fitness.

The ever consistent Trevor Rickman finished next in 55.51 just 22 seconds ahead of Kelly Knight, whose performance meant she was first woman home for the Club on her racing debut.  There was then a close race between Colin Topliss and Stuart Elliott with times of 56.24 and 56.35 respectively. This was Elliott's first appearance for the Club for many years and it is hoped that this race will mark a more permanent return to racing action. Dave York was next across the finishing line in 57.55 ahead of the 2nd woman finisher for the Club, Inge Moore in 60.26. Alison Shearer finished next in 64.27 followed by Samantha Marriott and Mike Harley in times of 65.29 and 67.00 respectively. Still recovering from the recent Liverpool Marathon Felicity Towns finished next in 71.56 ahead of the final finisher for the Club, Roger Barraclough in 74.56.

The final race in the Club Championship is the Clowne Half Marathon on Sunday 27th November 2011. Prior to that is the next race in the Derby Runner XC Series at Foremark Reservoir on 20th November 2011.
