Mayman marches on!

Jon Mayman continued his excellent form over the Derby Runner Cross Country Series when he was first back for South Derbyshire Road Runners in the 5th leg of the series at Grace Dieu. In very cold but dry conditions, one of the main features of the race was the tight packing of the first 5 finishers for the Club with only 14 places and 54 seconds separating Mayman in 84th place in 36.27 and Colin Mee in 108th place in 37.21. Between them was the ever improving Roger Matthews in 90th place in 36.47, Simon Hackett in 92nd place in 36.52 and Chris Mason in 99th place in 37.05. In a day of good performances Hackett again laid a marker for recognition in the upcoming Club annual awards in what is his debut series in all forms of competitive running.

Again performing admirably the next finisher for the Club was Paul McKay whose 38.22 for 126th place was good enough to seal the overall series runner up V60 prize behind teammate Mason, who also had the satisfaction, last weekend, of winning his age group in the County Championships at Markeaton Park, Derby. Malcolm Moore, Daniel Towns and Mark Nixon continued the theme of good, solid performances which were reflected in their finishing times of 40.52 for 179th, 42.46 for 222nd and 43.43 for 240th place finishes respectively out of 300 overall finishers.

The final race in the Cross Country series is at Hinckley on 19th February 2012 but before that there are the first two races in the Leicestershire Road Running Winter League at Barrow on Soar on 29th January 2012 and Desford on 12th February 2012.
